Today, the World Series of Poker covers more than 50 different tournaments and lasts about seven weeks. Many of the greats in poker have become great because of the victories at these tournaments and the bracelets won at them. These bracelets are one of the highest achievements possible in the world of poker tournaments. Poker players, for whom the main point is not particularly strong opponents, big names of countries and cities and impressive prize funds, have a chance to get all this by participating in the annual sessions of the European, held by PokerStars. The tour takes place in places as notorious as San Remo and the Bahamas, and culminates in a grand finale in Monte Carlo. There, the European champion is crowned each year and takes home several million euros.

The World is also one of the most prestigious poker championships and has become very popular thanks to TV broadcasts of the games at the final table. Thanks to these shows, new poker stars are emerging who are recognized by poker fans around the world. Many of them continue to play at the highest level and go on to become professionals.

These major poker tournaments (some of which have been running for decades) provide hours of highly intelligent entertainment not only for the participants, but also for poker fans watching the game at home on television or re-watching classic final tables on YouTube. One of the most famous games happened at the 1988 WSOP Main Event when Johnny Chan won the title and bracelet against Eric Seidel. That moment was later replayed in a scene in the movie Cheaters (starring Matt Damon).

Tournament poker has turned games into a full-fledged type of competition, where winners are determined and world champions are crowned.
